#FBF: We Praise Him When We Lose

How many of us as Christians–let alone Christian athletes–would do the same? While I believe that God cares about everything in our lives, I believe even more that He cares more about how we respond. Will we still praise Him when we lose?

Cody Parkey, kicker for the Chicago Bears, missed a 43 yard field goal that would have won the game and propelled the Bears into the NFL’s Divisional Playoffs for the NFC. Despite being disappointed in himself, Parkey still gave God praise. After missing the field goal and receiving condolences from teammates, Parkey pointed up like most athletes do after making it. Then, Parkey went to the prayer circle to pray with both the Bears and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Parkey had the maturity to know that God may have allowed that loss a few days ago, but that doesn’t make him a loser. It doesn’t mean God doesn’t care about him. Yes, God cares about football just like He cares about everything else in our lives. But sometimes, God allows losses to set us up for something bigger and better that only He can gives us.

And while many Chicago Bears fans are blaming Parkey for the Bears loss of which 101 of those fans could not also complete the kick, Parkey continues to live and thrive despite his haters. Actually, he probably has had more attention now then if he had made that kick. Maybe, it is okay to lose as long as we remember God remains on the Throne. Afterall, as God’s kids, we truly never lose . . . so go ahead and give Him praise!

When God knows He can trust us when we lose, then He knows knows He can trust us with success.
