Social distancing is a non-pharmaceutical infection control action that is taken by the public to stop or slow down the spread of a highly contagious disease. It is most effective when the infection can be transmittedcoughing or sneezing, direct physical contact, sexual contact, indirect physical contact like touching a contaminated surface, or airborne transmission. The objective is to minimize disease transmission, morbidity and death.
