On Memorial Day, we are reminded of the sacrifices that men and women have made to ensure our freedom and safety in this country. Those brave men and women–from the Marine to the soldier to the midshipman to the firefighter, paramedic or the police officer–have given their all so we could have the opportunity to enjoy something as simple as a football or baseball game.
It is one of the many reasons so many professional sports leagues salute veterans and first responders. These individuals have run to danger and given their all from fires to wars and now COVID-19. The NHL and the NBA have Veterans Nights with veterans and fans alike receiving military inspired swag.
Many athletes work with or have foundations to support first responders and veterans like Cam Atkinson of the Columbus Blue Jackets (Force Network Fund), David Beckham formerly of the LA Galaxy (Help For Heroes), and Alejandro Villanueva of the Pittsburgh Steelers (former Ranger Regiment officer/Special Operations Warrior Foundation).
But one of the best reminders and salute to veterans is seeing some of the amazing flyovers that happen before a NFL or MLB game. Just take a look for yourself as you enjoy your Memorial Day, and thank you Veterans and First Responders!
