On New Year’s Eve, Dana White and his wife, Anne, had a public altercation which has gone viral. For most individuals, especially in the Sports Industry, this most likely be the beginning of the end of their career. Yet, White is maintaining the status quo with one exception: he admitted what he did was wrong swiftly.

Both White and Anne issued a statement alluding this is the first time a situation like this has ever happened. And both were wrong as Anne assaulted Dana first. So, both are guilty of domestic violence. One could argue that Dana had a right to defend himself, and that would be true. The problem with that argument is Dana has been public about men hitting women–period. And yet, he hit his wife. So, is he a hypocrite? Many will question has this happened in the past in private. Some may question will he now go down the slippery slope and continue to do so in private.
Only time will truly tell. But there is another argument that could be made and should be made. What if Dana White had a human moment? We often place folks on a pedestal and forget they are human. Humans are susceptible to external pressures and triggers that make us ashamed of our actions at times. Maybe we need to question the certainty of our own actions if placed in White’s shoes. By no means is this condoning his behavior. His behavior was wrong–morally and legally. White could be “cancelled” like so many others by the public which would hurt the UFC.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;~Romans 3:23
This is just a suggestion that perhaps White was just a human who has fallen from grace and deserves some mercy. White admitted his wrong. While it remains to be seen if he is truly remorseful for his actions, we should allow some mercy to fall on White as he tries to atone for his wrong. His path won’t be easy or as simple as just going to anger management. However, his atonement should make it clear how remorseful he is not only to his wife but to the public as well.
