Tonight, March Madness continues. It’s Monday which means it is ladies college basketball. I turn it on to the Stadium Network to see how the ladies are doing after seeing there could be upsets on Twitter. I see scores for MLB, NHL, NBA and News. No ladies college basketball scores. No coverage of the ladies NCAA March Madness.
Stadium Network has every right not to air WNCAA games like any other network, but as a lady I have to wonder how much respect the network has for women sports. But this is actually true for many stations when it comes to coverage for lady sports games. And to be honest, Stadium Network does play ladies college soccer as well as several youth sports.
If any of these ladies mentioned above were men, the world would lavish them with praise, money (illegal) and honor them as being the greatest in their sport. There wouldn’t be the complaints about the pace of the game or the lack of competitiveness.
More people are watching and attending women sports than ever. Women’s UFC and the WNBA both have a healthy following with people watching from their homes. The WNBA viewership was up to 91% in 2014. The women’s World Cup, also, held its own with 4.7 million viewers tuning in for the United States-Colombia match.
Female athletes are still lacking support in sponsorships, salary, and respect based upon their brawn and talent for lacking the necessary aesthetic qualities. It is 2018. It is time for the proper respect for women in sports.
