For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?-Matthew 16:26 (KJV)
Source: Fellowship of Christian AthletesAthletes get pulled in many directions. There is training, practice, games, video reviews, contractual obligations and branding opportunities to name a few. Today much is about building one’s brand as an athlete, but the most important an athlete–or anyone for that matter–ought to be building is his Christianity.
It is important that a Christian athlete remember to be a Christian at all times. That means giving his all to God and his family and community as well as practice or during contractual obligations. It means finding ways to sacrifice for those who support the athlete and not just for the ones who are paying the athlete. Being a Christian first means being efficient with one’s time, money and gifts. It means pursuing God more than fame, money and glory.
Success for the Christian athlete means finding success through God not through the world.
